WWE made the decision to change Monty Brown’s name so they would own the license rights to the new name. The original name WWE came up with was Thunderbolt, but Brown pitched Marquis Cor Von as a tribute to a relative who had passed away. Vince McMahon made the final decision and went along with Brown’s wishes. The name was modified and changed to Marcus.
