Sabu To Induct The Original Sheik Into Hall Of Fame
Posted on March 28th, 2007 at 2:42 pm

For nearly four decades, The Original Sheik brought an unmatched and previously unseen brand of aggression to the world of sports-entertainment. With his trademark steel spike and ball of fire, the bloodthirsty wildman paved the way for the hardcore style of wrestling that would eventually change the face of the industry. On Saturday night, The Sheik will be honored for his contributions to the sport when his nephew Sabu inducts his late uncle into the WWE Hall of Fame. Following his in-ring career, The Sheik’s contributions to wrestling continued. He also played a role in training the Superstars of the future, including his nephew and current ECW Superstars Sabu and Rob Van Dam.

WWE Releases Joey Mercury
Posted on March 27th, 2007 at 10:08 am

WWE officials have agreed on the immediate release of Joey Mercury. He had been scheduled to be involved in a match on RAW tonight with MNM facing Ric Flair and Carlito. That match was expected to lead to a match between the two teams at Wrestlemania according to our sources. Mercury was called to John Laurinatis’ office and released this afternoon. Many speculate that this is a result of Mercury developing a painkiller addiction after his recent injury. Again, all speculation, hopefully Mercury will release a statement himself and clear out the mystery surrounding his release.

ECW On SciFi Preview 03.27.07
Posted on March 27th, 2007 at 10:06 am

After demolishing Chris Masters on ECW on Sci Fi and Mr. Kennedy & Randy Orton on SmackDown, ECW World Champion Bobby Lashley looked unstoppable on his Road to WrestleMania. But as Mr. McMahon showed on Raw, there’s a good reason why you should not cross the boss. Will Lashley be able to regain some momentum on ECW on Sci Fi with the Battle of the Billionaires at WrestleMania 23 just five days away? Also this week on ECW on Sci Fi, the eight Money in the Bank participants will collide in the same ring in the same match. ECW’s CM Punk, Edge and Matt & Jeff Hardy will face Mr. Kennedy, King Booker, Finlay and Randy Orton in an Eight-Man Tag Match just days before the Ford Field showdown. Who will gain the upper hand before Sunday?

Speaking of Eight-Man Tag Matches, the New Breed managed to get an edge on the Originals last week when Elijah Burke found a way to top Tommy Dreamer, and Kevin Thorn & Marcus Cor Von defeated Rob Van Dam & Sabu. On the final ECW on Sci Fi before their battle at WrestleMania, Burke and RVD will face off in a battle of the team captains. Which side will seize the momentum before their showdown at WrestleMania? The tension among the Superstars is high as all roads lead to the grandest stage of them all in Detroit on April 1. Don’t miss the last ECW on Sci Fi before WrestleMania on Tuesday at 10/9 CT.

Dustin And Cody Runnels To Induct Father Into Hall
Posted on March 26th, 2007 at 2:37 pm

Dustin and Cody Runnels, the sons of the American Dream Dusty Rhodes, will induct their legendary father into the WWE Hall of Fame this Saturday, the night before WrestleMania 23. Cody, who is wrestling in WWE’s developmental promotion Ohio Valley Wrestling, says the opportunity to have his sons induct him into the Hall of Fame will make a proud moment that much more poignant. “To him, it [the Hall of Fame] is a bigger deal than he’s letting anybody know,” Cody told WWE.com. “He and I, we’re like best friends, we’re really close. But he and Dustin, they’ve had their rifts here and there. So for us to be together – if ultimately he were to say, ‘I don’t want anything further to do with pro wrestling,’ this would be a wonderful way to cap it off.”

WWE Raw Preview 03.26.07
Posted on March 26th, 2007 at 2:36 pm

Mr. McMahon has promised that the last Raw before WrestleMania will be the biggest one of all time. It is only fitting that the show will air live from Chicago, the home of last year’s WrestleMania. With two huge main events, it looks like the show will live up to Mr. McMahon’s claims. World Tag Team Champions (and WrestleMania competitors) John Cena & Shawn Michaels will face World Heavyweight Champion Batista & Undertaker in a No Way Out rematch. Will the tenuous relationship between The WWE Champ & HBK stay intact? At WrestleMania, Mr. McMahon’s representative Umaga will face Donald Trump’s representative Bobby Lashley in the Battle of the Billionaires. On Raw, Mr. McMahon himself will go one-on-one with the ECW World Champion. Does The Chairman have what it takes to topple the powerful Lashley?

Looking back 20 years ago, Aretha Franklin was one of the premiere divas in the music world. Now, two decades later, she’s become a legend. The theme for WrestleMania 23 is “All Grown Up,” and as such, it’s only fitting that the 19-time Grammy Award winner who opened WrestleMania III with a stunning rendition of “America the Beautiful,” will return to the Motor City to kick off this year’s edition of sports-entertainment’s biggest showcase.

Wade Boggs To Induct Mr. Perfect Into Hall Of Fame
Posted on March 23rd, 2007 at 6:10 pm

Prior to “Mr. Perfect” Curt Hennig’s entrance into WWE, a series of videos were seen on WWE television proving that he was the “perfect athlete.” One of the videos featured Mr. Perfect taking batting practice, hitting nothing but home runs every time. Wade Boggs, then the third baseman for the Boston Red Sox and one of the greatest hitters in Major League Baseball history, was seen at his side marveling at just how perfect Hennig was. “I met Curt in 1983 in Rochester, N.Y., and we became good friends, hunting and fishing buddies,” Boggs told WWE.com. “In fact, he once saved my life while were were hunting in 2001; I got entangled into a barbed wire fence and was cut pretty badly. It took all the strength Curt had to free me and carry me about a mile back to the truck. He saved my life and has a special place in my heart; we spent as much time as we could together, and it’s a shame he was taken from us so early.”

William Shatner Inducting Jerry Lawler Into Hall Of Fame
Posted on March 22nd, 2007 at 2:45 pm

Back in 1995, legendary actor William Shatner appeared on Jerry “The King” Lawler’s King’s Court to promote his TV show TekWar. After Lawler threatened to boldly send the megastar where nobody had gone before, Shatner shocked WWE fans by laying “The King” out flat! Now, over a decade later, the two men have patched things up just in time for the two-time Emmy Award winner to step back into action and induct Lawler into the WWE Hall of Fame. “My great claim to fame with WWE is throwing Jerry “The King” Lawler in the ring,” laughed Shatner when WWE.com reached him for comments on this year’s WWE Hall of Fame. “I threw him back then, and now I’ll throw him right into the WWE Hall of Fame!” Best known for his role as Captain James T. Kirk on Star Trek, Shatner currently stars on ABC’s hit show Boston Legal.
